OBSERVATIONS: One of the factors to take into consideration before treating a patient in HBO is the drug interaction with the hyperbaric oxygen. Most of the uses are prescribed, some require monitoring, others are contraindicated and some are relatively contraindicated, according to the case.



Any of the following conditions, after considering its degree of seriousness and urgency, makes the patient not eligible for HBO treatment:

  1. Asma
  2. Congenital spherocytosis
  3. The use of any of these drugs:
  • Cisplatinum
  • Disulfiram (Antabuse)
  • Doxorubicin
  • Adriamycin
  • Bleomycin
  • Sulfamylon
  • Amphetamines
  • Nicorett-Nicoderm
  • Narcotic painkillers
  • Steroids
  1. Emphysema with CO2 retention
  2. Fever (>38.5° C)
  3. Middle-ear conditions or surgery background
  4. Convulsions
  5. Optic neuritis
  6. Pregnancy
  7. Airway diseases
  8. Viral infections
